by | Dec 7, 2023 | Atlanta, Exploring Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia, has so much for people to enjoy that you might not realize how much dogs enjoy it too. This pet-friendly city offers many irresistable activities for pets and their humans. You can dine with your canine in one of the Buckhead Village District’s many dog-friendly restaurants, tour the shopping malls, and explore the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail together. But, you both may have the most fun simply going to the local dog parks in Atlanta — of which there are several.

Atlanta’s Top Bark Parks

Who doesn’t love a nice walk in a lovely park? Your dog almost certainly does. Fortunately, Atlanta boasts many fine “bark parks” where you and your best friend can stroll, play, and make friends with other local animal lovers. Allow us to recommend our five favorite Atlanta dog parks.

Piedmont Park Dog Parks

Neighborhood: Piedmont Heights

Address: 1320 Monroe Dr. NE, Atlanta, GA 30306

Why Dogs Love It:

Piedmont Dog Parks boasts 3 acres of off-leash fun. Your dog can rehydrate at the dog water spigots, roam the trails, and relax in the shade of the park’s lush trees. The park also maintains separate enclosures for dogs of different weight classes. They even provide weekend treats, including Dog Popsicles from King of Pops. To satisfy park rules, your dog must be at least 16 weeks old, not be in heat, and have current tags and updated vaccinations.

South Bend Dog Park

Neighborhood: Lakewood Heights

Address: 1955 Compton Dr. SE, Atlanta, GA 30315

Why Dogs Love It

South Bend Dog Park offers separate play areas for different sizes of dogs. Kiddie (doggie?) pools, water fountains, and lots of shade trees help keep your canine happy and healthy during its visit. Your dog is equally welcome to explore the rest of South Bend Park with you once you’ve reattached their leash. You’ll find a variety of playground, picnic, and sports amenities awaiting both of you as you follow the hiking trail through the park. Make sure your dog has current vaccination records and a collar ID tag. Please use the waste cleanup bags provided by the park.

Fetch Park @The Works

Neighborhood: Hills Park/Underwood Hills

Address: 1295 Chattahoochee Ave. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

Why Dogs Love It:

Fetch Park began as the brainchild of Steven Ochs, who wanted to create a space that catered to dogs and dog owners alike. The results, which include several Atlanta locations, have received national coverage by ESPN, the Discovery Channel, and the Travel Channel. In addition to its off-leash dog activity area, Fetch Park @The Works maintains a busy calendar of entertaining events, from standup comedy acts to live music. The dog park offers a range of membership options at different price points, including daily, monthly, and annual rates. Dogs must be spayed or neutered, at least four months old, pest-free, and non-aggressive.

Atlantic Station Dog Park

Neighborhood: Midtown

Address: State St. NW and 17th St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30363

Why Dogs Love It:

If your everyday life centers around the hustle and bustle of Midtown Atlanta, you probably already know about the upscale shopping and office area known as Atlantic Station. But, did you know that Atlantic Station includes a dog park among its countless other amenities? From sunrise to sunset every day of the week, your dog can run, play, and rehydrate from the handy water hose. Just make sure that your dog has proof of a current rabies vaccination and stays on its leash while in the park. You’re also required to fill any holes your dog decides to dig in the turf.

Mozley Park Dog Park

Neighborhood: Mozley Park

Address: 1565 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW, Atlanta, GA 30314

Why Dogs Love It:

Of all the amenities you’ll find in the historic neighborhood of Mozley Park on Atlanta’s Westside, the park itself serves as the dominant feature for human and canine residents. The dog park area, the first off-leash park on the Westside, opened in 2021. Your dog will enjoy exploring a full acre of natural beauty, while also getting plenty of exercise on the park’s array of agility equipment. A small dog section accommodates dogs 30 pounds and under, while the big boys can play in the larger dog section. The park welcomes guests from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
