Exploring Austin: Best Cafes

by Melanie Robinson | Dec 21, 2021 | Austin, Exploring Austin

Selecting a new home or residence also means researching and discovering a neighborhood excites you and in which you feel comfortable. What restaurants are in the area? What about parks and gyms? With so many individuals now working from home or working for themselves, this process can also mean evaluating coffee shops and cafes that will function as an office away from home. Of course, these spots also serve as wonderful meetup spaces for dates, places to catch up with friends, or dining spots for some much-needed personal brunches.

Let AptAmigo help you find your next apartment close enough that you can drink Austin’s best coffee everyday! Our service is free, so you can keep your coffee money intact (heck, we’ll even buy you a cuppa joe during your tours; coffee’s on us!).

Where to Find the Best Coffee in Austin, TX

Dear Diary Coffeehouse

Neighborhood: Eastside

Address: 1212 Chicon Street #103

What Makes this Place Special: Dear Diary is a locally-owned vegan coffee shop tucked away on the eastside of Austin on the corner of 12th and Chicon. The shop boasts three blends of coffee beans roasted in-house, a variety of vegan foods, and a handful of local draft beers to please patrons. Its small space features beautiful artwork from local artists, a vast coffee selection, and outlets aplenty. Dear Diary’s quaint atmosphere works perfectly as a spot to study from or grab a quick espresso on the go.

Cherrywood Coffeehouse

Neighborhood: Central Austin / Cherrywood

Address: 1400 E 38th-1/2 Street

What Makes this Place Special: A staple in Central Austin, Cherrywood is perhaps best known for its extensive beer and coffee selections as well as its down-home ambiance. The spacious outdoor seating features dozens of picnic tables with umbrellas to hide guests from the vicious Texas sun while also offering significant indoor seating as well. The vast food menu at this comfy cafe includes breakfast all day as well as tons of vegetarian options.

What to Order: Terra Taco (eggs, fried tofu, cheese, avocado, shoestring potatoes), Grilled Veggie Sandwich, Peanut Power Smoothie, Cuban Con Leche

Mozart’s Coffee Roasters

Neighborhood: Tarrytown

Address: 3825 Lake Austin Blvd

What Makes this Place Special: Mozart’s sits on the shore of the Colorado River, where patrons take in serene, breathtaking views from the ample patio seating area, or from inside the heavily-windowed cafe. The place is a favorite among locals for its baked goods, live music, and (of course) its impeccable coffee selections. Mozart’s offers about 20 in-house roasted custom coffee blends in a wide variety of flavor profiles. Take special note of the roaster’s house-made pastries and award-winning desserts.

What to Order: Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Texas Pecan Coffee Cake, Tiramisu Cups

Sweet Paris Creperie and Cafe

Neighborhood: North Austin / The Domain

Address: 11410 Century Oaks Terrace, Suite 112

What Makes this Place Special: Come to Sweet Paris Creperie for the crepes (sweet, savory, or breakfast), but stay for the Nutella Marshmallow Hot Chocolate. While this quaint cafe carries all of the caffeinated favorites, like americanos, cappuccinos, cafe lattes, etc., it also serves up French Riviera Cocktails, milkshakes, and more. Comfy, padded seating along the walls (a rarity at coffee shops these days) makes it a great spot to get some reading or work done. The baby blue interior and delicate chandelier lighting sets a whimsical tone that would work well for brunch with friends as well. When you finish eating and drinking, you get the added benefit of close proximity to some of Austin’s best shopping options at The Domain.

What to Order: Nutella Marshmallow Hot Chocolate, Berry Agave Crepe, St. Tropez (lavender and strawberry frozen mimosa)

Revival Coffee

Neighborhood: Central East Austin

Address: 1405 E 7th St

What Makes this Place Special: The interior of Revival Coffee features floor to ceiling monochromatic millennial pink — from vases filled with fresh pink roses, to pink coffee-themed wallpaper, visitors often take selfies in the quirky space. Guests can also opt to sit on a covered patio with food truck options only a few steps away. Revival hosts local markets on the weekends, and is generally a trendy place to see and be seen.

What to Order: Abuelita Latte (Mexican hot cocoa and espresso), Fruity Pebbles (matcha, lavender, and oat milk)

Grab your coffee to go and use that jolt of energy to hit the streets. Public art decorates Austin’s many neighborhoods, so discover your favorite Austin street art pieces on your next weekend outing.
