Where Are the Best Nashville Murals?

The Gulch

What Lifts You Wings

Address: 230 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

If you’re in The Gulch, you can’t miss the What Lifts You Wings near Juice Bar and Biscuit Love. Not only does a long line of people waiting to snap a photo with the artwork almost always form nearby, but, at 16 feet wide and 23 feet tall, the wings are pretty hard to ignore. Created by Kelsey Montague in 2016, the What Lifts You Wings mural also includes a smaller pair of wings to the right of the main attraction designed for pets and children.

Jason Woodside Mural

Address: 299 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Searching for a cool backdrop for a colorful Instagram photo? Look no further. The large-scale Jason Woodside Mural (named for the artist) in The Gulch, located along 11th Avenue South, features a variety of geometric shapes and contrasting colors. Since it came on the scene in the spring of 2017, the Jason Woodside Mural has been a favorite among Nashvillians and visitors.

Downtown Nashville

I Believe in Smashville

Address: 501 Broadway, Nashville, Tennessee 37203

The I Believe in Smashville mural is a nod to the Nashville Predators professional ice hockey team and is perfectly positioned for fans to snap a selfie before a home game. Located on the side of the Bridgestone Arena at the 5th Avenue entrance, this downtown mural was inspired by the popular I Believe in Nashville murals dotted across Music City and created by DCXV Industries (DCXV stands for 615, Nashville’s area code).

XO Nashville

Address: 5036 Broadway Place, Nashville, TN 37203

Downtown Nashville’s bustling Fifth + Broadway is home to XO Nashville, a beautiful floral mural created by Tara Marie Aversa. This interactive artwork features a black diamond in the center with “XO,” at the top, giving photo-takers a prime spot to strike a pose and stand out from the pink-toned peonies covering the rest of the mural.

Marathon Village

Nashville Looks Good on You

Address: 1206 Milson Ave, Nashville, TN 37203

There are several Nashville Looks Good on You murals across Nashville, but the version in Marathon Village is particularly eye-catching with an eye reflected in a magnifying glass. Each mural, created by an artist who goes by the name NASHTN, is clean and simple – a black background with white text – making each a picture-perfect backdrop for just about any selfie.

East Nashville

Dolly Parton

Address: 1006 Forrest Ave, Nashville, TN 37206

Since 2020, a colorful, vibrant image of Dolly Parton has adorned the side of one of East Nashville’s most popular music venues and hangouts, The 5 Spot. The creator, Kim Radford, says the mural is a testament to how Parton – also known as the Queen of Country Music – brings people from all walks of life together.

What Lifts You – Air Balloon

Address: 1034 West Eastland Ave, Nashville, TN 37206

Created by the same artist responsible for The Gulch’s famous What Lifts You Wings, Kelsey Montague, the What Lifts You – Air Balloon mural in East Nashville offers another can’t-miss opportunity for a fun photo. Below the mural, which includes a 60-foot-tall hot air balloon, a basket is ready for photo-takers to hop in, giving the artwork a unique 3-D element.

12th South

I Believe in Nashville

Address: 2702 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

You can’t leave Nashville without taking a photo with an I Believe in Nashville mural. This one, located in the busy 12th South neighborhood, was the first in the iconic I Believe in Nashville series and was created by Adrien Saporiti (who now owns the DCXV Industries brand). You’ll find this mural next door to Edley’s Bar-B-Que.

Make Music Not War

Address: 2902 12th Ave South, Nashville, TN 37204

Created by Allan Geiger of Relax Max Apparel, the Make Music Not War mural is painted on the side of Epice, which is right across from the Green Pea Salon in 12th South. Geiger says he hopes the black-and-white mural encourages those who pose in front of it to allow their personalities to shine and radiate color in their own way.

Wedgewood-Houston

Love Y’all

Address: 2020 Lindell Ave, Nashville, TN 37203

Wedgewood-Houston’s Love Y’all mural provides a feel-good photo op that’s too good to turn down. Located on the side of Pencil and Paper Co., the mural’s simple hand-lettered design was created by Joseph Ernst. Bonus: This artwork sits just steps away from The Loading Dock, an all-day breakfast spot that also features a must-see mural (address: 2028 Lindell Ave).

The Nations

Silo Mural of Lee Estes

Address: 1407 51st Ave North, Nashville, TN 37209

Painted on an abandoned concrete silo, the Silo Mural of Lee Estes has become a centerpiece of The Nations neighborhood redevelopment. This 15-story painting depicts Nashville native Lee Estes, who has lived in the neighborhood since the late 1920s and spent much of his life volunteering and helping underprivileged families in the community. Guido Van Helten, the artwork’s creator, says he wanted the mural to display someone who embodied the neighborhood’s rich history and spirit.

You might get hungry after visiting all of these Nashville murals, but that’s a good thing because Nashville has a great food scene. Fill your empty belly with Nashville’s best hot chicken or brunch before discovering some more free things to do around town.
