Where to Find Capitol Hill’s Top Restaurants
La Abeja
Address: 508 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80203
Cost: $
Restaurant Overview: Walking by this place, you may just miss it completely. With a small storefront on Colfax Ave, the unassuming and straightforward La Abeja is known for serving up some of the best Mexican food in Denver. It’s a family-owned place with a counter-order style of service. Food is brought to your table after ordering, and you pay at the end, so you can add on extra items easily (and trust us, you’ll want to). From delicious traditional tacos (asada, carnitas, barbacoa, pollo, and chicharron in green chili), to scrumptious menudo on Saturdays and Sundays, this is a place not to be missed.
What to Eat: Chilaquiles, for sure.
City, O’ City
Address: 206 E 13th Ave, Denver, CO 80203
Cost: $$
Restaurant Overview: Get ready to meet one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the Denver area. City, O’ City will be your go-to place for everything — breakfast through late night, with full bars for both specialty coffee and alcoholic libations. Coming here means being part of a community. The restaurant uses as much local produce as they can, and they partner with vendors to bring you a truly green and local experience. Meat eaters, don’t be turned off by the vegetarian-only fare here — the food is fantastic! The menu offers gluten-free, vegan, soy-free, and nut-free versions of certain dishes, and it’s clearly marked on the menu what each dish contains and how it can be modified.
What to Eat: Soooo many things we could list here. Top of mind has to be the mesquite jerk cauliflower made with roasted sweet potatoes and cauliflower tossed in a mesquite puree with thyme and pomegranate. Wash that down with a kombucha mimosa. And, don’t forget to drop by on Wednesdays for 25% off pizzas.
DiFranco’s
Address: 955 Lincoln St D, Denver, CO 80203
Cost: $$
Restaurant Overview: At little DiFranco’s on Lincoln Street, you’re invited to sit back, relax, and “Eat Italian With Us.” And, eating upon eating is exactly what you’ll do here. They offer classic Italian dishes made for locavores (people who eat locally grown and produced food) with seasonal ingredients and extra-fresh pasta and sauces. Check this place out on a Wednesday for an “Italian Date Night” extra-special deal on a meal for two. Just don’t be surprised when an extra 5% is tacked onto your bill. That fee is split between the staff and supporting carbon-neutral farming.
What to Eat: Opt for the chicken parm and wash it down with a cannoli. While you’re at it, throw in a side of meatballs made with Italian sausage, Kiowa farm ground beef, red sauce, and pecorino (they can also be made with impossible plant-based protein).
Aloy Thai Eatery
Address: 211 E 7th Ave, Denver, CO 80203
Cost: $$
Restaurant Overview: Authentically Thai, woman-owned, locally run, fast service, and hot food — need we say more? When you come to Aloy Thai Eatery, you’ll get the best of the owner’s other two restaurants (Aloy Thai Cuisine in Boulder and Aloy Modern Thai in Denver). They took the most popular 20 items on their other menus and transformed the concept into a quick-service delivery and takeout model. The business is family run by Bangkok native Kim Naka, her daughters, and a chef with over 30 years of experience in the kitchen making Thai food.
What to Eat: Get started with the cheese wontons and grab a Drunken Noodles or Pad Thai dish for your main. And, don’t forget to pick up a traditional mango and sticky rice dessert for a refreshing treat.

Charlie Brown’s Bar & Grill
Address: 980 Grant St, Denver, CO 80203
Cost: $$
Restaurant Overview: It’s always dinner and a show at Charlie Brown’s Bar & Grill, a piano bar that’s sure to have you tapping your feet and singing along as you sip delicious drinks and eat some amazing food. As part of the Colburn Hotel, this place has some History with a capital H. Back in the day, Jack Kerouac, Butch Cassidy, and Allen Ginsberg would hang out at the hotel bar. (Kerouac actually mentions a long-time Charlie Brown’s waitress in his famous book On the Road.) Today, it’s still a lively place with a fun-time atmosphere. You can get up close and personal with your pianist when you snag a space at the bar-style seating attached to the piano. The beautiful wood-trimmed interior and the spectacular customer service will have you coming back here again and again.
What to Eat: Scrumptious steaks. Giant gyros. Enticing Enchiladas. It’s all good here. And, the wide selection of alcohol means everyone can sip their favorite drink alongside their meal.
Corner Beet
Address: 1401 Ogden St, Denver, CO 80218
Cost: $$
Restaurant Overview: Corner Beet is not only a clever name, but also a great establishment for vegetarian and vegan food. The produce is 100% organic, and they buy local and make items in-house whenever possible. Refreshing groupings of plants punctuate the bright space and add to the wholesome and welcoming vibes. They plan fun events, like open mic nights on Mondays, and they regularly offer 5% off if you bring your own to-go cup or food container.
What to Eat: It may sound quintessentially Millennial, but the avocado toast here is not to be missed. Wash that down with fresh pressed juice or a ginger immunity shot with cayenne to pump yourself up.
